28 May 2001

An International Federation delegate was attacked and killed in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on the evening of 27 May. Catherine Duclaux, a French national and a Regional Finance Delegate in Yaoundé, had to go to a pharmacy last night to get medicine for her one month old baby when she was attacked and stabbed in the chest.
With the help of bystanders, Catherine was rushed to a hospital where she died before a surgery could be performed.

Catherine Duclaux was born in Valence, France, in 1963. Catherine had worked for the International Federation and the French Red Cross for more than six years. She was a valued member of the Red Cross Red Crescent family and a friend to all who knew and worked with her
