International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent calls for immediate release
of Iraqi Red Crescent staff abducted in Baghdad

The
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is
calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all persons
abducted this morning from one of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society offices
in Baghdad.
As a member society of the International Federation of Red Cross and
Red Crescent Societies , the Iraqi Red Crescent Society has the full
support of its Federation. Their offices are clearly identified by
the Red Crescent emblem. The Iraqi Red Crescent Society is providing
essential help for all Iraqis and is acting according to the Fundamental
Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
Under these difficult circumstances, the International Federation
is expressing it s solidarity to all Iraqi Red Crescent Society volunteers
and staff who are entitled to full protection under international
humanitarian law and should be respected by all parties involved in
Iraq.
