New development goals based on national targets can help eradicate poverty

A conference report issued by The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) argues for 12 new post-2015 development goals that call for country-specific targets and minimum benchmarks.

The report was written by CIGI Senior Fellow Barry Carin and IFRC's under-secretary general for National Society and Knowledge Development Dr. Mukesh Kapila. It suggests that while the UN's Millennium Development Goals have rallied the world to a new moral purpose, they may not be ambitious enough to tackle the global causes of poverty.
