Kyrgyzstan Red Crescent volunteers and staff were immediately mobilized to bring essential comfort to the relatives of victims of the crash of an airplane near Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, which killed 68 people of the 90 passengers and crew on the evening of Sunday 24 August.
Kyrgyzstan Red Crescent teams are comforting victims’ families at the morgue, who are waiting to identify the bodies of their relatives, as well as people who are at the side of the injured in hospital, some of whom are in critical condition. They are also providing them with hygiene items, water, tea, and snacks.
By Monday afternoon 100 hot meals had been provided for affected relatives. The Red Crescent staff and volunteers are also assisting the psychologists sent to the scene by the Ministry of Health by serving snacks and drinks and arranging places where victims’ relatives can rest.
In addition, the Red Crescent provided two translators fluent in Farsi and Turkish to assist with communication between local authorities and the relatives of certain passengers.
