The Times newspaper has launched its Christmas appeal for 2006, which aims to raise up to £400,000 (approximately 940,000 CHF) for the British Red Cross.
During December, The Times will be running stories about the work and concerns of the British Red Cross and that of the wider Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
Around 30 stories will highlight the organization’s UK and international work, with topics as diverse as post-conflict recovery in Lebanon and skin camouflage work in the UK.
The first story, published on December 1 to mark World Aids Day, profiled the work of the Lesotho Red Cross Society, with the support of the British Red Cross, to assist people living with HIV in Lesotho.
Readers are being encouraged to give to the Red Cross using donation coupons accompanying each article. People can also donate online and by telephone. Last year, the newspaper’s Christmas appeal raised more than £400,000.
Leigh Daynes, head of media and public affairs for the British Red Cross, said: “Winning The Times Christmas appeal is a fantastic achievement for our Society.
“Not only will it help us raise vital funds for our work in the UK and overseas, it is a great profiling opportunity and will enable us to highlight the variety of our work to a large audience.”
