GAVI Alliance calls for continued committment to equitable access to vaccines

Published: 10 June 2011 16:42 CET
Two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) is all that is required to ensure immunization against polio. The vaccine is one of the safest around.

The GAVI CSO Constituency today released the Civil Society Call to Action to Support the GAVI Alliance. The Call to Action – which calls on donors to commit to fully funding the Alliance and reiterates that vaccination is the right of every child –  also sets out five further asks of the International Community and GAVI to ensure maximum impact of pledged resources.

More than 120 civil society organisations from across the world have signed the Call on the eve of the GAVI Pledging Conference in London on June 12/13. The event will mobilize Alliance partners, donors, private philanthropists, pharmaceutical companies and civil society organisations to achieve full funding of the Alliance in order to immunise nearly a quarter of a billion children by 2015 and save nearly four million lives.
