China - Two years after the earthquake

Wang Yi:"The kid on my picture is my youngest sister. I took lots of pictures of people, some landslides in the mountains and houses already; I didn't know what else should I take. At that time I saw my younger sister was playing there, so I took a picture of her. I took the last 5 pictures of my family. My father is a migrant worker, last month he worked in Henan province, now he is back home setting up windows for our new house. Mum is a farmer. We have two cows, one pig, and some chickens. After the school is out, I will help my family to do some housework like sweeping floor, washing clothes, cooking and so on." "I was napping in school when earthquake happened, I didn't know what happened, I just heard of loudly sound, then the building was shaking heavily, someone said 'it's earthquake', then we run out of building. We were frightened. Our teacher asked us to surround as a circle then he took us to a safety place. My house fell down since earthquake, now we are building new house, we had 20,000 rmb loan. The building work has already completed, now it's waiting for decoration. Till 5 months later I didn't feel frightened, I just worried about afterquake. Later our teacher told us how to take precautions against afterquake. Our teacher said, that when earthquake happens, if you couldn't run away, you should stay in your room's corner. I had heard of Red Cross from my parents before, we had rice, quilt and some other food from Red Cross. My ideal future is to be a construction worker, so I could build our hometown more beautifully."(p-CHN0094B)Photo: Wang Yi / IFRC All the photographs in this gallery have been taken by children with disposable cameras, for a competition organised by the American Red Cross.
