Workshop on the Regional Legal Compendium of Regulatory Instruments for the Management of International Humanitarian Assistance in Emergencies

Panama City, Panama, October 24-25, 2011

This event was co-hosted by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Relations, International Trade and Culture of Argentina, the White Helmets Commission of Argentina, the International Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles (IDRL) Programme, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs.

The workshop aimed to build the capacity of government focal points in completion of the regional legal tool the Regional Legal Compendium of Regulatory Instruments for the Management of International Humanitarian Assistance in Emergencies.  The tool is the result of annual intergovernmental meetings on Enhancing International Humanitarian Partnerships. As well, the workshop provided a forum for analysis of disaster law themes such as the IDRL Guidelines, Regulatory Barriers to Shelter and Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction. Participants were also afforded the opportunity to dialogue on disaster law themes in preparation for the 31st International Conference.
