DRR Checklist for Lawmakers - Inception Workshop, Geneva, 11 October 2012

Regional Workshop on the Facilitation and Regulation of International Disaster Assistance, co-hosted by the Botswana Red Cross Society, the South African Development Community (SADC)and the IFRC, Gaborone, Botswana, 3-5 October 2012

This three-day training, jointly organised by IFRC, SADC and the Botswana Red Cross, will convene representatives from the government and National Societies from the 15 SADC Member States.  It aims to combine elements of training with strategic discussions on how to address legal and regulatory barriers in Southern Africa.

REDLAC workshop on IDRL, Panama City, September/October 2012

This workshop aims at increasing the understanding and strengthening the skills of REDLAC members on IDRL. The role of REDLAC in advocating on IDRL will also be discussed at the workshop.

Shelter workshop for National Societies, Kuala Lumpur, 17/18 July 2012

This workshop aims to raise awareness of regulatory barriers related to the provision of emergency and transitional shelter, to solicit National Society feedback and to discuss the progress the Asia Pacific project on regulatory barriers to emergency and transitional shelter.  The discussions that take place during the workshop will shape the implementation of the second phase of the project.

High level side-event at ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, New York, 20 July 2012

This high-level side event to the Humanitarian Affairs Segment of ECOSOC, the UN Economic and Social Council, focused on progress in the development of domestic preparedness to facilitate and regulate international disaster reponse. It considered this in the light of recent experiences of Colombia and Mozambique, and provided an overview of the pilot Model Act on IDRL.

Philippines country workshop, Manila, 26 and 27 June 2012

This workshop was convened by the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), with assistance from the IFRC and Philippine Red Cross.  The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the core concepts of international disaster response law and the IDRL Guidelines and to further assess the international or "external" component of the Philippine national disaster management and response system.

Advocacy Network Meeting of National Societies and Expert Meeting on the Model Act, Panama City, 25 and 26 June 2012

This meeting aimed to establish an advocacy network of National Societies in the Americas. A consultation on the pilot version of the Model Act was also be conducted.

Seminar on the role of customs in international disaster relief operations in Asia, Bangkok, 8-10 May 2012

The IFRC, together with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the World Customs Organization (WCO), have planned a series of regional seminars to discuss best practice related to customs and humanitarian relief, the first of which took place in Bangkok in May 2012.

Workshop on Disaster Law and the Drought Relief Operations in the Horn of Africa, Mombasa, 17-19 April 2012

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the IFRC hosted a 3-day workshop to analyse the regulatory complications around the delivery of food aid, and to develop tools and strategies to avoid these issues in future.

31st International Conference of Red Cross and Red Crescent, November 2011

International Dialogue on Strengthening Partnership in Disaster Response, October 2011

Representatives from governments, regional organizations, the UN system, the Red Cross Red Crescent, and non-governmental organizations gathered in Geneva over two days in October 2011 for the International Dialogue on Strengthening Partnership in Disaster Response:  Bridging national and international support.
