Joelle Tanguy brings to the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement leadership experience in global humanitarian, health and development organizations. Prior to joining the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 2013, she was Managing Director of External Relations for the GAVI Alliance where she orchestrated its first $4billion US dollar replenishment.
Prior to this, she was Senior Vice President at the Global Business Coalition (GBCHealth), and served as committee member and focal point for the private sector on the Board of Directors of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
In the 1990’s, Ms. Tanguy led humanitarian relief operations – mostly for Médecins Sans Frontières – in Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Armenia, Bosnia and Somalia, often at the height of political and military turmoil. She served as Executive Director of Doctors Without Borders/MSF USA from 1994 to 2001, before joining the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (TB Alliance) as its founding Director of Advocacy and Public Affairs.
Ms. Tanguy has taught humanitarian affairs at Bard College in New York and contributed to various publications on humanitarian topics. She has served on boards, board committees and advisory boards of Human Rights Watch, Global Fund, and Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative.
A dual citizen of France and the United States, Ms. Tanguy received her Master in Business Administration (MBA) in a joint program of HEC/ISA with Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. She also holds a Master in Management Information Systems from the University of Paris IX.
