International disaster law course for academics and practitioners

Early announcement

The Universities of Bologna, Roma Tre, Uninettuno and Pisa, S. Anna and the IFRC Disaster Law Programme will co-convene their first joint "International Disaster Law Course" for academics and practioners at the Institute for International Humanitarian Law in Sanremo, Italy in spring 2014 (dates to be announced).

The 5-day course will be aimed at graduate and post-graduate students with a specific academic interest in international disaster law as well as technical disaster management practitioners (eg. staff of civil protection departments, staff of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, NGOs) and other persons with an academic background in areas such as law, security studies, international relations, conflict studies or other related fields who want to expand their knowledge in this area.

The all-encompassing programme will seek to strike a balance between the legal, practical, diplomatic and military issues relating to the broad spectrum of international disaster law. It links different legal issues related to IDL, such as disaster response law, humanitarian assistance, protection of persons in the event of disaster, protection of cultural heritage, disaster risk reduction. Particular attention will be paid to the most relevant regional initiatives launched to face disaster scenarios.

Application forms and greater details will be posted on this site as they are available.  For any questions in the meantime, please write to disaster.law@ifrc.org.
