Statement by Dr Jacqueline Bell, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
Mr Chairman,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Distinguished guests,
The world has never been as close to eradicating polio as it is today. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed.
The Red Cross Red Crescent is committed to continuing to work closely with our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and through the newly created Global Partners Group. We fully support global endeavours to eradicate polio from the three countries which remain endemic, to end retransmission of polio and to support certification efforts thereafter.
The Red Cross Red Crescent will continue to strengthen its engagement at both national and sub-national levels.
We are committed to sustaining and intensifying efforts to reach more people and to engage in National endeavours to achieve polio eradication.
We call upon Member States to support these intensification efforts.
