In the aftermath of an explosion in Istanbul, the Turkish Red Crescent Society (TRCS) immediately provided humanitarian relief including blood services for the wounded, soup kitchens and support to affected families.

The incident made headlines worldwide. As Red Crescent workers responded to the high profile emergency, another Turkish Red Crescent team was providing support to sister National Societies in a coordinated humanitarian response.

Magen David Adom (MDA), the National Society in Israel, wished to locate its affected citizens and help bring them home. The Turkish Red Crescent located five people immediately who had minor injuries, enabling the MDA to transport them back and reunite them with their families. After visiting local hospitals, the Red Crescent located another five individuals who were critically injured and collaborated with MDA to ensure their safe return home.

MDA Director General, Mr. Eli Bin, expressed gratitude to the TRCS Director General, Dr. Mehmet Gulluoglu, for the Red Crescent’s assistance and the Director General’s support to the operation. The Turkish Red Crescent and Magen David Adom are members of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the world’s largest humanitarian network empowered by 17 million volunteers worldwide building healthier and more resilient communities.
