British Red Cross gears up to provide first aid support

Publié: 27 juillet 2012 15:57 CET

As an additional two million people descend upon London for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the British Red Cross is prepared. In addition to its everyday humanitarian mission to help vulnerable people receive the help they need, British Red Cross volunteers and staff will work with emergency services staff to provide first aid at many events and at transportation hubs near the Olympic venues.

And it is not just first aid kits the crews will be carrying – there will also be multilingual phrase books to complement their life-saving skills and communicate with those in need of assistance. The Red Cross guide contains 62 questions and phrases related to first aid and emergencies, translated into 51 languages.

In the months leading up to the Olympic games, the organization provided first aid training sessions to residents in the host Olympic boroughs. With so many visitors in the area, it is more important than ever that local residents have life-saving skills and the confidence to use them.
