The Palestine Red Crescent Society has been providing emergency assistance in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of military operations four days ago. The organization says that 24 of the 41 dead and 216 of the 379 wounded were evacuated, treated and transferred to hospitals day and night.

The Red Crescent is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and spearheads the dangerous but critical lifesaving work of emergency medical evacuations on the ground.

Since the beginning of the airstrikes that resulted in a high number of fatalities and casualties, volunteers and staff have been working around the clock to provide emergency medical services to the wounded throughout the Gaza Strip. More than 200 volunteers have been deployed in Gaza.

In addition, the organization is coordinating with all relevant parties in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to secure the medical needs of local hospitals.

A consignment of medical items has been received from the Egyptian Red Crescent Society contributing in meeting the medical needs of the Gaza hospitals.

Dr Younis Al Khateeb, President of the Palestine Red Crescent said the continuous bombing was making it difficult to reach families that have lost their homes. “Both the Jabalya branch, Der Al Balah branch the Al Quds Hospital and the EMS station in Gaza city have been damaged the day before yesterday due to continuous bombing of the area, which has caused the shattering of windows. Furthermore, five of our staff have sustained bruises caused by the scattering of rubble” he said.

The organization's operations rooms in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank are monitoring the situation on the ground and managing the humanitarian services as they are needed. It is working closely with the International Committe of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the IFRC in order to respond to the medical and humanitarian needs.
