The Palestine Red Crescent Society joined other National Societies around the world in organizing community-based events on the occasion of World First Aid Day. During the previous week, workshops and coordination meetings were held at the Society headquarters and branches to consolidate human and material resources for the implementation of activities.

On the morning of Sept. 13th, Younis Al-Khatib, PRCS President, officially launched World First Aid Day events during a press conference at the National Society headquarters, highlighting the mission of the Red Crescent in providing high quality health, social and other humanitarian aid to all in need since its establishment in 1968.

Concerning First Aid education, Al-Khatib stated that during the past six years, the National Society has graduated more than 30,000 people in first aid. In addition to providing round the clock ambulatory services, the Red Crescent 101 emergency number also provides a ‘telephone hotline and emergency medical network’ service. Its purpose is to improve the health conditions of the Palestinian people living under siege and curfews who are forcibly immobilized at home and are unable to access medical and health care centers. Al-Khatib concluded the press conference by underscoring the need ‘for every Palestinian home to have one family member trained in first aid. Such training can make a difference during emergency and life-threatening situations.’
