Claudine
Mukagabiro was only six years old in 1994 when more than 800,000
people across Rwanda were killed in 100 days of terror. Ten
years ago she was one of the hundreds of orphans to find shelter
in the refugee camps around Goma, in former Zaïre. Claudine
- who lost her parents "during the war" - prefers
to remain silent about the events she has been through. Instead,
she expresses her feelings and memories in colourful patchworks
which hang on the walls of the sewing workshop in the Maison
de la Jeunesse (Youth House) of the Rwandan Red Cross.
