Tsunami operation
Indonesia - New beginnings in Nias
October 2005



Nias Island is a part of North Sumatra province in Indonesia. On the western side of the island the tsunami first hit the town of Sirombu on the 26th December 2004 and a major earthquake hit Nias 28th March the same year. The Australian Red Cross has a large-scale housing project in Sirombu, building new houses to assist the victims of both the tsunami and the earthquake.
