Belgorod –example of a successful Russian Red Cross community-based tuberculosis programme



Aleksander Tolstoluzky, 49 years old, is another patient treated by the Russian Red Cross. “I realize now how important it is not to default from the treatment. If I default, not only will I disappoint the doctors and Elena, my Red Cross nurse, but I will also damage my health.” The psychosocial support provided by the Red Cross nurses is essential in making sure TB patients complete their treatment and avoid the depression which often follows a TB diagnosis.
