About
860,000 children died of AIDS-related causes in 2005. In November
2006, the International Federation launched a US$ 300 million
appeal to support National Societies in southern Africa in
tackling HIV/AIDS. The five-year plan aims to strengthen not
only prevention programmes, but also to scale up treatment
for AIDS sufferers and target 460,000 orphans living in the
region.
