Psychological support : best practices from Red Cross and Red Crescent programmes

The psychological wounds may be less visible than the destruction of homes and physical infrastructure, but it often takes far longer to recover from the psychological and emotional consequences of disasters than to recuperate material losses. The International Federation, together with its member National Societies, today represents one of the most important pools of knowledge in the field of psychological support to victims of disasters. "Best practice" consists of accumulated and applied knowledge about what does or does not work in different situations and contexts.
