Surprise upturn in global aid

 

 

 

While donations from OECD countries to emergency and development aid rose during 1998, sums directed towards basic needs continued to fall. Just US$ 578 million (1.3 per cent of bilateral ODA) was committed to supporting basic health in the world’s poorest nations.

For the first time since 1994, total official development assistance from the world's richest nations has risen but the share of spending on health dropped to 1991 levels.
This chapter tracks global aid trends and evaluates the impact of these changes on the delivery of international aid.
