and meetings: European Forum on IDRL |
 The
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
had the pleasure to organize the European Forum on International
Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles (IDRL) which took
place in Antalya, Turkey, from 25 to 26 May. The European Forum
was hosted and co-sponsored by the Turkish Red Crescent Society.

The objectives of the forum were to:
- review common legal issues encountered by European actors
involved in international disaster response
- critically analyse the current international, regional
and national regulatory frameworks for international disaster
response with a view to identifying legal anomalies and/or
any gaps of scope or implementation
- develop recommendations on ways to improve the effectiveness
and implementation of regulatory frameworks at the international,
regional and national levels
The European Forum was the
first in a series of regional forums discussing IDRL issues
to be held through 2006–2007.
The European Forum on IDRL convened
Governments, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies,
International Organizations, NGOs and academic experts. Participants
were selected to represent both the providers and receivers
of international disaster assistance in the various European
sub-regions. |
