The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies and the International Disaster Response Laws,
Rules and Principles Programme are organizing a series
of Regional Forums on IDRL over the course of 2006 and
early 2007 in order to discuss current regulatory frameworks
for international disaster response, possible gaps and
operational obstacles within those frameworks, and ways
to improve the current system to ensure the most timely
and quality assistance possible to disaster victims.
There will be five Regional Forums
held in total in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Africa
and Middle East. These forums play a key part in giving
effect to the commitments made by States and National
Societies at the 28th International Conference of Red
Cross and Red Crescent in 2003. The conclusions from these
meetings will form the basis for recommendations to be
submitted by the International Federation to the 30th
International Conference in 2007. They will bring
together high level representatives from Red Cross/Red
Crescent National Societies, Governments, International
Organizations, NGOs, and the Academic Community.
