Federation comissions a preliminary legal study on IDRL
As part of the project on International Disaster response Law, the International Federation has commissioned Professor Horst Fischer of Bochum University in Germany to examine the existing legal instruments relating to international disaster response.

Professor Horst Fischer has been a key contributor to the IDRL initiative and was a presenter at the IDRL Workshop hosted by the Federation in February 2001.

Since this time, some 130 documents relating to IDRL have been collated and analysed. A report identifying some of the key trends will be delivered to the Federation in August 2002.

This preliminary legal study will be an important tool in raising awareness of IDRL issues and generating debate within the international community on the best ways to ensure that the laws relating to disasters are relevant and better understood by governments and disaster response personnel.
