Algeria earthquake
p4753
On May 21 2003, northern regions of Algeria were devastated by an earthquake that left more than 2,200 people dead, nearly 10,000 injured and at least 20,000 families homeless.
Following the disaster, the International Federation launched an appeal for immediate response for quake victims. Now the Federation is extending the appeal to assist a further 40,000 people and to support Algerian Red Crescent rehabilitation activities and disaster prevention programmes.
The Algerian Red Crescent will continue to provide, not only material assistance, but also vital psychological support services to the traumatised population.
