Within an operation the Logistics functions are crucial in order to get the right goods to the right place at the right time.

Logistics is a support service and needs to be involved in relief operations from the beginning.

Logistics should provide the means required to get goods, people and manufacturing capacity:

  • To the RIGHT place
  • At the RIGHT time
  • In the RIGHT quantity
  • At the RIGHT quality
  • At the RIGHT price

Logistics within the International Federation

The goal of the Federation Logistics department is to continually build the logistics capacity of National Societies and co-ordinate effective logistics response to support Federation emergency operations and on-going programmes world-wide.

The logistics department strives to make the best possible use of the Red cross Red Crescent network capacities, to maximise the logistics preparedness within the Federation and to provide effective response to the requirements of emergencies and on-going programmes.

Priorities:

  • Co-ordinate a logistics response through an optimal Secretariat logistics set-ups;
  • Promote and ensure ongoing standardisation within the movement;
  • Develop further the logistics ERU network
    Lead the development of an effective supply chain management software;
  • Provide professional logisticians at all levels.
    Establish an emergency stock strategy within the Movement;
  • Optimise the logistics information network within the Federation.

Regional Logistics Units

Regional logistics units provide support to Delegations and National Societies within the specific geographical region.
