Maldives: A big thanks for tomorrow
It was lunchtime on Saturday 29 March. The beat of drums silenced the usual roaring of trucks and heavy construction machinery. While the beat was unmistakeably bodu beru – a local style – the vocals had a callow sharpness and a carefree pitch. The drummers and vocalists were school children, living at the moment in an internally displaced persons camp on nearby Ungoofaaru Island who were, for the first time, visiting their future home on Dhuvafaaru. Transitional shelter programme in Indonesia
Between July 2005 and November 2007, the International Federation’s transitional shelter programme built 19,923 shelters in 392 communities in Indonesia, providing high quality accommodation for 80,000 beneficiaries. This was achieved through the collaboration of 35 national and international implementing partners. (...)
The shelter designed displayed at the Alora camp on remote Nias Island. The design was based on the International Federation’s shelter programme in Viet Nam, with an emphasis on ease of construction and adaptability. (p17228)
