World TB Day - March 24

World Tuberculosis Day, held each year on 24 March, is intended to promote awareness, knowledge and motivation for action against tuberculosis worldwide.

The theme for World TB Day 2002 is "Stop TB, fight poverty". This theme has been chosen from over 130 entries submitted for consideration from many sources - health and community care workers, doctors, non-governmental organisations and other interested parties.

TB is estimated to take an annual economic toll equivalent to US$ 12 billion dollars from the incomes of poor communities. Tackling TB is one way of achieving greater global prosperity.
