HIV/AIDS

Southern Africa

Southern Africa In October 2006, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies announced a major campaign to increase its HIV and AIDS programmes in southern Africa, launching an appeal for US $300 million.

With the help of this money, the International Federation aims to reach over 460,000 orphans and vulnerable children and 250,000 infected people who will benefit from home-based care. Additionally, over 50 million people are supposed to receive information about how the spread of HIV can be prevented.

The organization will work closely with community based initiatives and develop strategies at a country level to define where Red Cross Red Crescent interventions can be most helpful under national AIDS plans.
