Urban Moderators (Modérateurs Urbaine) - French Red
Cross
The Urban Moderators
(Modérateurs Urbaine) programme which started in 1999,
now runs in disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods in 13 districts.
Young people from such areas are recruited and trained by the French
Red Cross to be "Urban Moderators". The aim of the programme
is to invent new methods of social action relevant to run-down urban
areas. The urban moderators (also called "inner city professionals")
have two main roles:
1) Promoting of RC services such as first
aid, preventive health education, social aid and social welfare
2) Facilitation and mediation function
between residents of the disadvantaged neighbourhoods and public
and private services in the city.
