Key Points of the
Reducing Discrimination Initiative

  • The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement has always been committed to reduce discrimination and violence and will seek to proactively act and advocate at every level this commitment as well as demonstrate it in practice.

  • Impartiality is the fundamental principle of the movement which directly implies taking action against discrimination

  • National Societies and their members and volunteers consistently deliver their services to the most vulnerable in a non-discriminatory way and are fighting all forms of discrimination.

  • The mission statement of the Federation: "To improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity" directly implies acting to reduce discrimination and violence

  • National Societies are uniquely placed to combat discrimination, both as part of the Movement and also considering their particular role in civil society derived from their auxiliary status with governments
