Reducing
Discrimination Initiative
Goals
and objectives
The overall goal of the initiative is to support National Societies
to develop activities with communities and public authorities that
influence behaviour at the community level. These activities will
work towards reducing discrimination and violence in the community,
fighting intolerance and promoting respect for diversity.
The initiative has two interrelated objectives:
- To capture, develop and share knowledge
on best and good practices in promoting respect for diversity
and fighting intolerance and discrimination
- To monitor and reinforce the Reducing
Discrimination Initiative
Principally, the initiative seeks to achieve
its goal and objectives through:
- Cataloguing "good
and best practices"and support with developing new programmes
based on these examples
- Advocacy
and awareness raising at the local, national and international
level - including speeches,
news and press releases concerning
relevant Red Cross Red Crescent activities.
- Developing and running training workshops
on the theme of reducing discrimination
- Collating research, materials and documentation;
conducting research on the work of other
organisations
- Publication of existing research
material
- The assessment of new issues arising
in the community and possible new responses
There are many examples of National
Society programmes related to the theme of reducing discrimination
and violence in the community, as well as various regional
actions that are currently being developed.
The resources and information included within this section of the
web site is designed to be used to develop locally driven activities
to reduce discrimination and violence in communities.
