World Humanitarian Day

Every year on 19 August, the international community marks World Humanitarian Day in recognition of aid workers who have lost their lives in the course of their duty.  It is also a day to celebrate humanity and the spirit that inspires people to help others who are in need, even in difficult and dangerous situations, often putting their own lives as risk.

#sharehumanity

Everyone has a story to tell about the people that inspired them through a selfless act of kindness or a special contribution. On World Humanitarian Day, we are asking everyone to share their inspiration by tagging three people who have inspired them on a Facebook or Twitter post with the hashtags #sharehumanity and #redcross or #redcrescent and asking 'your inspiration' to tag other volunteers that have inspired them. In this way we can create a chain of inspiration that spans the globe.
