"We are the future, but above all the present..."

More than half of the volunteers of the RC/RC are youth. They are involved in all activities of their National Societies. Fabakary Kalleh participated in the Volunteer Seminar at the International Federation in December 2004.

How long have you been involved in the Red Cross/Red Crescent?
20 years
Why did you join?
I joined when I was nine years old. I liked the uniform, and I was interested in the social programmes. I wanted training in the programmes and to learn public speaking.
What is your best Red Cross/Red Crescent experience?
I have to say the first Bantaba Youth Camp. It was my initiative to arrange this camp. The first time was in 2002, and it is now an annual event. We had 500 people at the camp, and I had to find a place for all of them to stay as well as provide food for them – be their father and their mother in a way. At the end of the day, I felt that I had made a difference in someone’s life, that I had prepared someone to make a difference in the life of someone else.
What are your hopes for our Federation of the future?
I hope for a better organization. I also dream about seeing the youth taking the lead to free the world of human suffering!
