Do you know what it feels like to be a refuge? To have to flee from
your home and family? Or to hide in a boat and wait in uncertainty
to try and get asylum in another country?
Luckily most of us do not know how this feel, but the project "Youth
on the run" offers participants the opportunity to be a refuge
for 24 hours in a live role-play.
The participants have to simulate an escape with their family from
Somalia to Denmark. During the simulation they will be stopped at
the border, questioned, brought to a refugee camp, be attacked and
finally they will arrive in Denmark where some of them will get
asylum.
This project is designed to educate school pupils about refugees
and to help them to understand and respect the people who have to
take the decision of leaving everything behind because of persecution
or war.
"I have realised how refugees must feel. They feel awful 24
hours a day, I never thought about this before," said one "Youth
on the run" participant.
The project has spread to other countries across Europe.
