"We are the future, but above all the present..."

More than half of the volunteers of the RC/RC are youth. Here you can met a handful of young and involved young people, all participants of the International Youth Meeting in Tarragona, Spain, in September 2004.

How long have you been involved in the Red Cross/Red Crescent?
4 years
Why did you join?
I was interested in First Aid, and I did the course. I really like to work with voluntary services and had been involved in other organizations before, but liked the Red Cross better.
What is your best Red Cross/Red Crescent experience?
I really enjoy tracing. I worked with this during the Iraq crisis and did several courses in Damascus. It was very good, but also very hard, to be with the refuges. These people had really felt the war. In general, I like to help people. There are many people who need help in Syria.
What are your hopes for our Federation of the future?
I hope that all youth will me more active as decision-makers in the organization. The majority of the Movement are volunteers and the majority of the volunteers are youth. We do a lot of the work, and we have to be allowed to decide what we want and what we don’t want.
