"We are the future, but above all the present..."

More than half of the volunteers of the RC/RC are youth. Here you can met a handful of young and involved young people, all participants of the International Youth Meeting in Tarragona, Spain, in September 2004.

How long have you been involved in the Red Cross/Red Crescent?
7 years
Why did you join?
Like many others, I had a dream about changing the world. Also, when I was 17, I had these destructive friends, and I really wanted something different in my life. I thought about joining a political party, but my parents advised me against it because I was so young. So I wrote a letter and sent it to the Red Cross as well as Save the Children, and after a few months I received a letter from the Red Cross Youth.
What is your best Red Cross/Red Crescent experience?
Youth Power in 1999 was great. It was a worldwide meeting in Stockholm with 400 youth participants from more than one hundred National Societies of Red Cross/Red Crescent, lasting for ten days.
What are your hopes for our Federation of the future?
I really hope that the whole Movement can find a way to include and keep youth. This concerns the survival of the Movement. The youth have to be included and allowed to influence the decisions to stay in the organization.
