"We are the future, but above all the present..."

More than half of the volunteers of the RC/RC are youth. Here you can met a handful of young and involved young people, all participants of the International Youth Meeting in Tarragona, Spain, in September 2004.

How long have you been involved in the Red Cross/Red Crescent?
5 years
Why did you join?
In High School the Red Cross had a workshop and I attended. I passed the exam, and went on to learn First Aid. I enjoyed it a lot and stayed in the organization.
What is your best Red Cross/Red Crescent experience?
I was involved in a project following Hurricane Mitch called “Take Back the Fantasy”. We went to hostels where people who had lost their homes were staying every Sunday, and followed the post-trauma and recovery of the children. The children waited for us to arrive, and we felt much appreciated. I am interested in working with children in general, and also work with children in the school. We do a good job there. The children get involved in our activities, and many times this also makes them more involved in the general subjects in school.
What are your hopes for our Federation of the future?
I hope for improved support, training and participation in the Federation work in a good network in Latin America. We have some twinning projects that work well already and we need more projects like these. We can learn even more from each other.
