A step to the future: development of regional youth cooperation in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

On January 27-28, 18 youth representatives from Belarus, Moldova and Ukrainian Red Cross National Societies met in Kiev to overview achievements and results of youth movement in 2004, to share their experience and to discuss the possibilities for future development of “Youth Regional Cooperation”. The meeting was organized by Kiev Regional Delegation,ICRC, with support of Minsk Delegation, IFRC and Danish Red Cross.

Participants took an active part in discussion of problems in implementation of projects “Exploring Humanitarian Law” and “Youth against HIV/AIDS” in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. “We are here today to revive the youth movement in the region, to ensure that youth is actively participating in Red Cross programmes thus bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the Red Cross work”, says Tetyana Marochko , Ukrainian Red Cross.

Two youth working groups that will coordinate implementation of IHL and HIV/AIDS projects were set up. Participants developed a range of joint activities that will be carried out during the year 2005 in all three countries.

“The Development of Youth Regional Network is a new but exciting and challenging opportunity for National Societies in this region” says Maryana Liptuga, Danish Red Cross Youth Delegate, “We believe that our work will strengthen the development of youth Red Cross initiatives and capacity of National Societies in volunteers’ management and coordination”, she concludes.
Youth from Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine met to strengthen youth development in their region.
