The
Palestinian Red Crescent Society celebrated its foundation and
the volunteers’ day through the cultural- and sports festival
“A hall in the wall” in Ariha city. A total of 350
volunteers from 11 volunteering committees (Ariha, Jerusalem,
Al Bireh, Katna, Salfit, Zaatara, Marda, Kira, Deir Astia, Beit
Lahem, and Beit Jala) participated in the festival.
The festival started with a bicycles race from the office of
PRCS in Ariha. The racers were sent off by Maher Al Natour,
representative of PRCS in Ariha, and Khaldoun Ewais, head of
youth & volunteers unit in PRCS. The finish line was at
the Ariha International Stadium. A total of 60 volunteers participated
in this race and the winners of this race were: Saer Abou Setta
from Ariha committee in the men’s categories and Safia
Barakat from Al Bireh committee in the women’s category.
This race was followed by competitive games and football matches,
organized in the stadium.
The sports events were followed by a poem competition. It was
opened with a reading from the Holy Quran and the national song
and a welcome by Nour Al Hayek, a volunteer from Ariha committee,
who emphasized the work of the youth committee in Ariha. Next,
a message from the Palestine Red Crescent was presented by the
coordinator of the center region, Khalil Sabri, in the name
of Khaldoun Ewais, head of youth & volunteers unit. Sabri
welcomed the volunteers, appreciated their efforts, congratulated
them with the volunteers’ day and distributed acknowledgement
gifts to all committees participating in this festival. Then
the poem competition started. 25 volunteers participated, and
the competition was supervised by the poet Omran Al Yasini together
with three volunteers.
At the end of the festival, the winners received their medals,
and finally folk dances and songs were presented by the group
Aqabat Jaber and some talented Red Crescent volunteers.
