For the past five years, the Norwegian Red Cross branch of
Vest Agder has arranged week-long stays for children who would
not otherwise get a vacation in Haraldvigen, on the sourthern
coast of Norway. This year, 50 children spent a great week
sailing, fishing and even swimming! |

participated in the international camp of Magen David Adom
in Israel in September to share experiences. They all agreed
that smiles and thank yous are the best rewards for their
voluntary work. |

Over seven thousand children and young people participated in the 63 summer camps
arranged by Palestine Red Crescent Society this summer.
The camps were arranged by the youth and volunteers unit in
cooperation with the psychological heath unit, the rehabilitation
unit, the disaster preparedness unit and other units of the
society.

The TV show M1 is watched all over Ukraine. Recently, the
channel hosted a one-hour live show on first aid training,
demonstrated by one Red Cross instructor and one youth volunteer
during the popular “Horoshow” programme.

Meeting
needs close to home

Having
spent a month helping the tsunami relief effort in Aceh, the
young Red Cross volunteers from Cilimus, near Bandung, found
themselves responding to a disaster closer to home when a mountain
of mud and garbage buried at least 70 homes and killed at least
143 people. For the volunteers, the tsunami victims and the
poor garbage scavengers are the same: vulnerable people in need
of their help..

Oliver and Maria Katrina Calong, both 16 and Philippine National
Red Cross youth volunteer, recall the typhoon response last
November (2004). “It was horrible," says John. "I
felt like Henry Dunant treating the wounded and comforting the
children and women crying."
