“Young
volunteers prepared for the future,” was the theme for
the national youth camp of the Red Cross Society of Panama,
gathering more than 100 young people from local Red Cross committees
all over the country 9 - 12 February 2006.
The youth volunteers came together to exchange experience and
knowledge. Present was also the regional delegate from the Spanish
Red Cross, who has facilitated the production of a video where
young people express their opinions regarding youth violence.
The days of the camp were divided into two parts, with volunteer
forums in the morning and various competitions and social events
in the afternoons. Forum topics included prevention of violence,
the additional emblem of the Movement, and many other issues.
A national meeting of youth directors was arranged to discuss
the youth regulations. The training session for the youth directors
also included volunteer management to promote participatory
activities and support the strategic development plan of the
National Society.
A meeting of Together We Can instructors, facilitators and educators,
was also arranged, and the TWC messages disseminated to all
participants of the camp. Together We Can uses peer-education
methodology among young people to prevent the spread of HIV
and the discrimination of people living with HIV.
