Nigar
(14) has lost both parents. After an event arranged by the Azerbaijan
Red Crescent Society, she could not only look back at a wonderful
and carefree day, she had also decided to become a Red Crescent
youth volunteer! "I want to help organize such kind of
joyful events for other children," Nigar said.
The "A moment of joy" event was organized by the youth
departments of society and the Binagadi branch in connection with
the International Day of Children’s Protection (1 June)
to bring happiness into the lives of children and youth who
have lost their parents. The participants spent a whole day
together on May 29 in Ismayili, a picturesque part of the country.
The young participants started the day in high spirits, singing
songs and reading poetry. After one hour of sightseeing at the
bottom of the Maiden Tower, they jumped into buses and went
to the State Reserve of the district. Before going for another
walk, they helped the Red Crescent volunteers to prepare the
lunch. Next, they were divided into two groups and went hiking.
A volleyball tournament was also arranged between the participants
and the volunteers, and, as the tournament was guided by the
principle of impartiality, both teams received gifts at the
end. Another game that was carried out was a knowledge competition
with questions related to the history of Azerbaijan, and again,
it was not so much about winning or losing. According to the
rules of the lively game, whenever someone gave an incorrect
answer he or she had to perform a song, poem or dance.
The children were very happy with the event and asked if such
events could be organized more frequently. "We will remember
this day for a long time: we received so much joy during such
a short period of time. We managed to see so many things; and
the volunteers from the Red Crescent became our best friends,"
concluded Nigar.
