The competition “Seven principles in seven posters”
was conducted jointly by Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine Red Cross
National Societies as the one out of three joint youth activities
in the framework of “Cross-border youth integration and
cooperation” programme.
The main goal of the competition was dissemination and promotion
of the Fundamental principles among youth. This activity was
developed by the youth volunteers themselves during the sub-regional
youth Forum 2005 in Minsk, Belarus. In February 2006 the youth
coordinators of the three National Societies sent the competitions
announcements and support papers to local branches. As a result
more then 930 posters were received from youth (6 – 19
years old).
The best posters were selected from each National Societies
and all winners received awards. In total, 25 youth from Belarus,
Moldova and Ukraine were awarded. Among the prices were mobile
telephones, cameras, MP3 players, stationary and items with
Red Cross logo. In addition, to support the promotion of the
principles, as well as of the Red Cross Movement among youth
in the region, it was proposed by the members of the sub-regional
Youth Committee (Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine) to develop informational
materials (posters, notebooks and cards) based on the best art
work from the competition. 14,000 posters, 2,000 cards and 1,000
notebooks were printed with the financial support of the the
Humanitarian values programme. Youth, branches and teachers
have already given very positive feedback to the material. In
addition, Ukraine Red Cross used the fragments of some of the
arts to develop materials for the public campaign against stigma
and discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS.
In November, 2006 the third youth Forum will take place in Kiev,
Ukraine. It is planned that youth volunteers would propose,
discuss and select the new joint activities for 2007 as well
as share their experience on implementation of the local youth
initiatives and re-elect the sub-regional Youth Committee.
