Volunteer from Mauritanian Red Crescent visits family displaced by insecurity in Mali.

Mauritania: Population Movement

The internal conflict in Mali intensified throughout 2024, increasing displacement of civilians to Mauritania. As of 30 September this year, 262,000 refugees crossed the border to Mauritania, and approximately 12,400 Mauritanian civilians returned from Mali. Services in camps are already limited due to overcrowding and lack of humanitarian services, and those living outside camps have extremely limited access to basic services, such as shelter, water, sanitation, food, healthcare, protection and education. Your donation will help the IFRC make a meaningful difference for the 61,760 people supported by the Mauritanian Red Crescent in this response.

Lebanese Red Cross volunteers prepare humanitarian aid in the city of Aley. They store food parcels, mattresses and others goods in local warehouses so they can be distributed to displaced people.

Lebanon: Complex Emergency

Lebanon’s southern border has been the scene of continued conflict since 8 October 2023, with a massive increase in airstrikes and attacks, leading to over 2,710 deaths and 12,592 injuries as of 28 October 2024. Through this emergency appeal, the IFRC and its membership aim to address the urgent needs of 600,000 people by providing interventions involving healthcare, food security and shelter, as well as support with water, sanitation and hygiene. This appeal will also help scale up the search and rescue capacity of the Lebanese Red Cross.

The Philippines has been impacted by six tropical typhoons in less than a month – an unprecedented pattern of extreme weather, that has devastated communities, leaving them no time to recover. The destruction of homes, schools, and livelihoods has left vulnerable communities in urgent need of basic necessities like food, water, and shelter, and the cyclone season is not yet over. This emergency appeal will help make a meaningful diﬀerence for 97,250 people supported by the Philippine Red Cross in this response.

South Sudan Red Cross volunteers help people to safety during heavy flooding.

South Sudan: Floods

Since May 2024, South Sudan has experienced significant flooding, caused by heavy rainfall and the bursting of the Nile River banks. The floods have affected more than 700,000 people, caused extensive damage to homes and devastated livestock and crops.Through this emergency appeal, the IFRC and its membership aim to address the urgent needs of 300,000 people through health, WASH, shelter and livelihoods interventions.
