Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds injured following outbreaks of violence across Turkey on Friday.

Fighting broke out after a faction of the country’s armed forces launch an unsuccessful coup against the government.

Turkish Red Crescent teams have been providing support in cities across the country including Ankara, Istanbul, Adana, Trabzon, Gaziantep, Izmir, Hatay and Trakya.

At Numune Hospital in Ankara, the Red Crescent has been providing psychosocial support for the families of people injured in clashes.  It has also deployed a mobile kitchen to the hospital to provide food and drink for people as they wait for news of their loved ones.

Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Europe, Simon Missiri said:

“Brave Red Crescent volunteers and staff are providing vital support for the loved ones of people caught up in recent violence across the country.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Turkey and the families of those killed and injured.”

The Red Crescent is  also collecting and coordinating blood donation.
