On Tuesday 31 July at one o’clock in the morning, a group of armed people kidnapped a seven member delegation from the Iranian Red Crescent while they were leaving the headquarters of the Libyan Red Crescent in Banghazi. The delegation was on its way to the hotel 'Tibsti' where the delegation was staying. The delegation was being transported to its hotel in a car of the Libyan Red Crescent driven by a volunteer. The delegation was asked to step out of the car and they were taken to the cars of a group of armed people and to an unknown place.

The Libyan Red Crescent has strongly requested the group that kidnapped the delegation to free them, in recognition of the efforts of the Iranian Red Crescent during the 17 February revolution and to continue to have good relationships with all the organisation and National Societies especially those that supported the Libyan Red Crescent.
