Hungary: Chemical Spill - Red Sludge (2010)

Following the collapse of an alumina waste reservoir in Hungary in 2010, a toxic wave of 'red sludge' flooded the surrounding area, destroying villages and contaminating the land. This case study presents the key elements of the Hungarian Red Cross response to this disaster and aims to raise awareness of technological and biological (CBRN) hazards.
