About the Health and Care Training Platform

The Health and Care Training Platform is the IFRC's central learning hub for health and care capacity strengthening. It brings together training courses, guidance, tools and learning resources developed by the IFRC, National Societies and Reference Centres, providing a single point of access to learning opportunities across the Health and Care Framework 2030.

About the resources on the platform

The platform offers a diverse range of health and care learning resources designed to support volunteers, staff and partners in developing the knowledge and skills needed to improve community health outcomes. Resources span technical health topics, cross-cutting competencies and practical tools that can be applied across a variety of programme settings and contexts.

How can these resources be used?

The platform supports flexible and self-directed learning. Users can:

  • Follow learning pathways that combine multiple modules to build comprehensive skills in a specific area of health and care.
  • Select individual courses and resources to deepen their knowledge on a particular topic.
  • Begin with the recommended Building Block Modules— 1. Behaviour Change, 2. Community Assessment, 3. Community Mobilisation and 4. Volunteer Mobilisation—to establish foundational competencies that strengthen community-based health and care programming.
  • Continue their learning journey through specialized technical modules aligned with their role, interests or programme priorities.

Who is it for?

The Health and Care Training Platform is designed primarily for Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, staff and partners seeking to strengthen their health and care knowledge and skills. However, the platform is openly accessible to anyone interested in learning more about community health, health promotion, disease prevention and broader health and care topics.

Alignment with the Health and Care Framework 2030

The Health and Care Training Platform is organized around the three pillars of the Health and Care Framework 2030, ensuring that learning opportunities reflect the breadth of health and care work across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Network:

Pillar 1: Global Health Security

Pillar 2: Global Health Protection and Universal Health Coverage

Pillar 3: Global Water Security

Together, these learning opportunities support the development of a skilled and equipped Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff, contributing to healthier and more resilient communities worldwide.

The four building block modules of the Health and Care Training Platform

The Health and Care Training Platform is supported by four Building Block Modules that provide the foundational skills for effective community-based health and care action. These modules serve as recommended starting points for learners, offering transferable competencies that strengthen learning and practice across all health and care areas. Additional Building Block Modules may be added over time to meet evolving needs and priorities.

Building Block Modules:

  1. Behaviour Change
  2. Community Assessment
  3. Community Mobilisation
  4. Volunteer Mobilisation
